What is 3d Printing and which technology is right for me?

    What is 3d Printing

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

3d Printing, also referred to as Additive Manufacturing, is the manufacturing method of building a part by depositing material layer by layer.

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

Not at all! Engineered Prints focuses on providing services to end users with little or no CAD or Engineering background required as well as businesses of all sizes.

Is there only one style of 3d Printing?

Do I need to be good at CAD or Engineering?

Is there only one style of 3d Printing?

3d Printing or additive manufacturing can be accomplished in several different fashions with the most common being Extrusion (FDM/FFM), Selective Sintering/Melting (SLS/SLM, DMLS)  or Photo Curing (SLA, DLP).

Tell me about the PRINTING processes

FDM / FFF (Melted and Extruded)

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) and FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) is often used interchangeably and is exactly the same process.

FDM/FFF uses production grade thermoplastic (Recyclable plastics) and is the first choice for 3d prototyping for most applications.

    • Uses melted and extruded thermoplastics to provide a highly accurate and precise part.

    • Can create parts with details and cavities not possible with standard manufacturing processes.

    • The most cost effective additive manufacturing process

    • Creates strong, durable and dimensionally stable parts

    • Best for:
      • Proof of concept (Fit and form components)
      • General prototyping

    Standard Materials:

Standard thermoplastics, such as ABS, PLA, and their various blends including co-polymers(Carbon fiber, woods, etc..)

    Rating:

    Resolution: 4/5

    Accuracy: 4/5

Surface Finish(With No Post Processing): 2/5

    Durability: 4/5

    Cost: 1/5

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

SLS( Selective Laser Sintering), SLM(Selective Laser Melting) and DMLS(Direct Metal Laser Sintering)

SLS/SLM/DMLS use production grade thermoplastic powder or metal powder to create precise and intricate functional prototypes.

    • Uses a Laser to melt or sinter (similar to welding) the powder together.

    • Mechanical properties more closely related to the standard base material( stronger than FDM).

    • Rough surface finish

    • Limited material options

    • Best for:
      • Custom manufacturing
      • Load bearing/Functional prototypes
      • Parts with very intricate details not achievable with FDM.

    Standard Materials:

Engineering thermoplastics. Nylon 11, Nylon 12, and their composites.

    Rating:

    Resolution: 4/5

    Accuracy: 5/5

Surface Finish(With No Post Processing): 4/5

    Durability: 5/5

    Cost:3/5

SLA / DLP (Light Cured Resin)

    SLS/SLM/DMLS (Laser Melted Powder)

SLA / DLP (Light Cured Resin)

SLA ( SteroLithography) and DLP(Digital Light Processing)

SLA/DLP provide the highest level of resolution and accuracy.

    • Uses a light/laser (often UV for SLA) to quickly cure a photo-polymer resin (a liquid material that reacts when exposed to light)

    • Mechanical properties are often more brittle than FDM/FFM or SLS/SLM/DMLS

    • Sensitive to long exposures to UV light.

    • Best for:
      • Patterns
      • Molds
      • Tooling
      • Components that require very fine detail.

    Standard Materials:

Varieties of resin (thermosetting plastics). Standard, engineering (ABS-like, PP-like, flexible, heat-resistant), castable, dental, and medical (bio-compatible).

    Rating:

    Resolution: 5/5

    Accuracy: 5/5

Surface Finish(With No Post Processing): 5/5

    Durability: 3/5

    Cost: 4/5

about us: More than JUST a 3D Printing Service

Engineered Prints was founded as a family business when Erick Dickman became frustrated at the lack of availability and cost effectiveness of additive manufacturing and engineering service companies. With a core background in New Product Development and  a passion for Engineering Innovation, Engineered Prints was founded as a cost effective 3d printing and engineering services company available to both consumers and big business; features missing from the large additive manufacturing companies currently in existence.

With some of the fastest turnaround times in the market and the highest of quality services, Engineered Prints is quickly becoming the regional Market leader of additive Manufacturing and Engineering Services for all size business as well as the general consumer. We pride ourselves in catering to our customers with any level of CAD or Engineering knowledge.

Engineered Prints is located in Cumming Georgia  and our team is focused on Efficiency, Accuracy, Punctuality and Continuous Improvement while holding the Engineering Code of Ethics above all else.

Don't let 3d modeling proficiency keep you out of 3d printing your dreams.

    Challenge our team in:

    • Leading your design
    • Co-Designing your Products
    • Provide Best Practice Inputs
    • System Integrations

Turn ideas into finished parts in as little as 24 hours.
